An FIR was registered in Karnataka on Monday against Rahul Gandhi’s close and Indian Overseas Congress President Sam Pitroda. His NGO Foundation for Revitalization of Local Health Tradition (FRLHT) is accused of occupying the land of the Forest Department.

On the complaint of the BJP, a case has been registered against Pitroda, a partner of his NGO, 4 officers of the forest department and one retired IAS officer. Ramesh NR, BJP leader and President of Anti Bangalore Corruption Forum, had complained to ED and Lokayukta on 24 February. A case has been registered today after investigation.

After the complaint was filed, Pitroda wrote on X on 27 February-

In 2001, this lease was extended for 10 years. The lease was over in 2011. Pitroda and his associates are still running a hospital on this land. Apart from this, a building has also been built on this land of the forest department without permission. The price of land is more than 150 crores.

A retired IAS also named in FIR Those against whom the case has been registered include Sam Pitroda, besides his NGO partner Darshan Shankar, retired IAS Javed Akhtar from Forest Department, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Conservator RK Singh and Sanjay Mohan, Deputy Conservator of Bangalore Urban Division N. Ravindra Kumar and SS Ravi Shankar.

Land was leased for research BJP leader Ramesh said that the FRLHT Organization had requested the Karnataka State Forest Department to lease the reserve forest area for the protection and research of medicinal herbs.

In 1996, the department gave 12.35 acres of reserved forest land in B block at Jarkbande Kaval near Yelhanka, Bangalore in 1996. The lease ended on 2 December 2011. It was not extended.

When the lease is over, the land should have been returned to the forest department. Ramesh alleges that the forest department officials did not make any attempt to withdraw this land in the last 14 years.

Overseas had to resign from the post of Overseas Congress President due to controversial statements. Sam Pitroda has been making many controversial statements earlier also. In an interview to the English newspaper The Statesman during the Lok Sabha elections, he said- East people in India look like Chinese and South African. There was a lot of controversy on this. The BJP created a lot of uproar over this.

However, the Congress had opted out of this statement of Pitroda. The Congress said that this definition of India’s diversity is not acceptable, it is wrong. After this, on 8 May 2024, he had to resign from the post of President of Indian Overseas Congress. However, on 26 June, Pitroda was again appointed to the same post.

Pitroda had said- China is not the enemy of India Sam Pitroda, close to Rahul Gandhi, said on 18 February- India should stop considering China as its enemy. The danger from China is often exaggerated. However, the Congress opted out of Sam Pitroda’s statement.
