Champions Trophy PAK vs NZ Match Report: In the first match of the Champions Trophy 2025, New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 60 runs. Due to this one defeat, the host Pakistan has started to face the danger of getting out of the tournament. In this match played at Karachi National Stadium, the Kiwi team scored a huge score of 320 runs, in response to which Pakistan’s entire team was reduced to 260 runs. Pakistan’s Group Stage is still a match against India and Bangladesh in the Group Stage of Champions Trophy.
In this match, Pak captain Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and chose the first bowling. This may not have even thought that Pakistan team management would not have thought that the decision to bowl will be heavy on them. Devon Conway, Kane Williamson and Derryl Mitchell went on cheaply, but Will Young and Tom Latham sent Pakistan to the backfoot. On one side, Will Young hit 12 fours and a six in an innings of 107 runs. On the other hand, Tom Latham hit 10 fours and 3 sixes in an unbeaten innings of 118 runs. Apart from him, Glenn Philips also contributed to New Zealand to reach the score of 320 runs in 39 balls.
Pakistan’s embarrassing defeat
When Pakistan came out to chase a huge target of 321 runs, Saud Shakeel and captain Mohammad Rizwan returned to the pavilion cheaply. Wickets were falling continuously from one end, but Babar Azam kept the second end on the strength of 64 runs. Salman Aga scored 42 runs, while Fakhar Zaman scored an innings of 24 runs but could not take the team towards victory.
Khushdil Shah, who came to bat on the seventh order, upheld the hopes of Pakistan’s victory for some time. But the bowlers from the other end proved to be a failure to tick the crease for a long time. Khushdil scored 69 runs in 49 balls, but under pressure, he had to play big shots and lost his wicket in this affair. The defeat of the Pak team was also embarrassing because it could not play even the entire 50 overs. With this defeat, Pakistan team’s hopes of going to the final have shocked.
