Manoj Bajpayee’s father was rejected at Pune Film Institute
Manoj Bajpayee’s father Radhakant also wanted to become an actor in his time. He had applied for admission to Pune Film Institute, but rejected. Radhakant was very fond of watching movies. Whenever a film was released. First Day used to go to watch the first show. Not only this, he also worked as ‘Film Babu’ during his college days.
Let me tell you that ‘film Babu’ calls him who used to take the box of the film’s reel from the distributor to the theater. Manoj Bajpayee’s father Radhakant used to take the reel box from Patna to Muzaffarpur.
Did not become an actor himself, wanted to make son a doctor
Manoj Bajpayee’s father wanted him to become a doctor, but Manoj had to become an actor since childhood. After passing the 12th, he came to Delhi lying from home that he had to prepare for IAS. After some time, he wrote a letter to his father and told that he had come to Delhi to become an actor. His father replied that I am your father. I know you have gone to become an actor. Along with this, he also sent a money order of 200 rupees for the financial help of Manoj Bajpayee. Somewhere he wanted to see his dream fulfilled in Manoj.
Rejected in NSD, Naseeruddin Shah competed in theater
The National School of Drama (NSD) rejected Manoj three times in the audition. He joined the Act One Theater Group in Delhi itself. Act One Theater Group was very popular in Delhi in the 90s. Manoj Bajpayee became a very big name in Delhi’s theater.
On seeing this, Manoj Bajpayee became very famous in the world of Delhi’s theater. He was called the theater artist of Naseeruddin Shah’s collision. A play of Manoj ‘Netua’ was a huge hit. People said about that drama that the drama was not seen for many years. Manoj also directed some plays, in which Anubhav Sinha was his assistant.
First love found in theater
In the Act One Theater Group, Manoj met a girl named Divya. Divya was graduating in Delhi at that time. He also had an inclination towards the theater. She used to come to rehearsal in the Act One Theater Group. Divya was very beautiful and her voice was very good. At first sight, Manoj fell in love with Divya. The process of both of them increased, the matter reached the wedding.
The girl’s house was against the wedding
Divya was a resident of a big house in Delhi. At the same time, Manoj was struggling. His financial condition was not good. Therefore, the people of Divya’s house did not want both of them to get married. Even Manoj’s family was not happy with that marriage. Manoj was constantly receiving threats from the girl’s family, but he did not care about those threats.
Married in the temple amid police security
According to Piyush Pandey’s biography on Manoj Bajpayee, the actor told the whole thing to one of his friends Rajesh Joshi. Rajesh Joshi was a journalist in Jansatta at that time. Manoj said to Rajesh Joshi, ‘I am constantly getting threats. Today I am getting married in a temple in Laxmi Nagar. Rajesh Joshi, after talking at the local police station, got two policemen posted outside the temple. Manoj was first married in a film manner.
Divorced only after two months of marriage
The people of Divya’s family feared what. It happened there. Manoj’s economic situation was so bad that the living of husband and wife could be very difficult. Somewhere Divya was also beginning to realize that she made a mistake in a hurry. As a result, Divya divorced Manoj within two months. Because of this Manoj was very disappointed.
Started thinking about suicide
Manoj was completely broken due to divorce from his wife and rejecting NSD thrice. He reached very close to suicide. This shocking revelation was made by Manoj during an interview.
Bandit Queen not recognized
When Manoj came to Mumbai after the theater had a big name, he did not have work. Before coming to Mumbai, he did Shekhar Kapoor’s film Bandit Queen. He had such a getup in that film that he was not identified. Secondly, he did not have much dialogues in the film. So people did not recognize them.
Eight Bai stayed in eight -eight room with Saurabh Shukla in Mumbai
After reaching Mumbai, Manoj rented a house in DN Nagar near Andheri. A few days after he reached Mumbai, Saurabh Shukla came. Saurabh Shukla has said in Piyush Pandey’s book ‘Kuch Get Kuch Ki Gidhi’- I got a big shock after seeing a room of eight by eight in Mumbai. His fare was two thousand rupees. Whereas lived in a large house in Timarpur, Delhi, whose fare was only 1200 rupees. I brought 25 thousand rupees. Out of that, 12 thousand rupees were given to Manoj. Manoj also added 12 thousand rupees and we paid the entire year fare together.
Fraled out of three places in a single day
It was not easy for Manoj to come from Delhi and make his place in Mumbai. In Piyush Pandey’s book, Manoj has shared the story of his struggle and said- all the stakes were falling upside down. Those days were not casting directors. Friendships with assistant directors used to get some work. Similarly, I got a serial.
On the first day on the shooting, as soon as I gave the first shot, all the people standing in front of the camera suddenly went missing. According to me the shot was good, but no one was going to tell. After a while an assistant director came and said that you go to the costume room and change clothes. Madam did not like your work.
The same day Manoj went to another place. There he was to go to the shoot of a document after two days. Manoj Bajpayee says- When he reached there, he saw that someone else is shooting in my place. It was told that if the other actor was liked, he took him. While the shooting was to be done after two days, I did not even consider it necessary to tell me.
I called another fellow, he also promised to give me a role. When he called, he told that he wanted a little long boy. So took someone else. In this way, I was removed from three places in a day.
The offer of serial self -respect was turned down
The serial ‘Swabhimaan’ laid the foundation of Manoj Bajpayee’s career in Mumbai, but Manoj had earlier rejected the offer of this serial. When Manoj arrived for the casting of ‘Swabhiman’, Mahesh Bhatt spoke to the assistant directors. Ashok Purang, a close friend of Manoj Bajpayee, says- Manoj liked the role, but he was offered very little money.
They came out after rejecting the offer. As soon as he came out and told the whole thing. I said that brother has to pay rent, there are other requirements. Earlier, Manoj would give some answers, I ran in and explained to the casting director that perhaps my friend has made a mistake in understanding something. Give us half an hour. I explained to Manoj-and then Manoj agreed to work in that serial.
Initially, only eight-ten episodes got the job
Manoj got only eight-ten episodes of the first beginning in ‘Swabhimaan’. His character was later increased. This was revealed by Mahesh Bhatt himself in the program of ‘Jeena I This Naam Hai’.
Mahesh Bhatt had embraced on seeing Manoj
Mahesh Bhatt sent a message to Manoj on the pagers and called him to meet immediately. Manoj did not believe at first that Mahesh Bhatt has sent a message to him. After being confident, he reached the Filmistan Studio fearfully. There Mahesh Bhatt was shooting for the film ‘Chahat’ with Shahrukh. On seeing Manoj, Mahesh Bhatt hugged.

Ram Gopal Varma stood from the seat on seeing Manoj
When Ram Gopal Varma was taking auditions for Manoj Bajpayee’s film ‘Race’, Ramu came to know that he had done Shekhar Kapoor’s film Bandit Queen. On this, Ramu stood from his seat and told that he had seen the film four times. Finding them for the last three years. Nobody told anything about them.

Manoj Bajpayee’s film ‘Satya’ was released on 3 July 1998 and Neha (Shabana Raza) on July 17. The same year the two met at a party for the first time. Hansal Mehta gave a party at the Sun and Sun Hotel in Mumbai to the completion of 100 episodes of his TV show.
Manoj, Rekha had come to the party to drop Bhardwaj and Neha went to meet director Rajat Mukherjee. Neha’s film ‘Near’ flopped. At that time she was in a little depression.
