On the increasing tension between India and Pakistan over the Pahalgam terror attack, a Chinese scholar has said that China will never want this situation to get out of control and turn into a complete struggle. Senior expert of a major government think tank said, “I believe that China has become a principle and practice for India-Pakistan tension since the 1999 Kargil war.”
Speaking to the news agency PTI, the expert referred to the attitude of Beijing that the military conflict (during the Kargil conflict) would not solve the crisis. On the condition of anonymity, he said, “Since then, the same has always been standing, whether it is a terrorist attack on Parliament in 2001 or a 2008 Mumbai attack.”
These experts, who have worked for years on the relations between China, India and Pakistan, said, “This is mainly because China does not want the stress to get out of control between India and Pakistan, which threatens regional peace and stability.” He said, “Whatever the situation between China and India, China will maintain this stance in the near future.”
Expert said, ‘I think despite the differences regarding external influence (bilateral vs. international), China’s status and other major countries, which are largely to live with each other, India and Pakistan will continue to rely on this situation and take advantage of their benefits.’
He said that China’s support to protect Pakistan’s sovereignty and freedom should be explained in this context. Referring to China’s demand for quick and fair investigation to reduce stress, he said, “Therefore, there is a need for a complete and fair investigation.”
Another senior Chinese scholar of strategy cases, Hu Sheesheng, said that China will do anything to avoid any major military confrontation between India and Pakistan. Hu Sheeshang, director of the Institute of South Asian Studies at the ‘China Institutes of Contentor International Relations’, said in a written reply here, ‘Since the results of military war will be very impact not only for India and Pakistan but also for the region but also for the region, so China will not let the situation be out of control.’
He said, ‘China can do anything to help stop or stop any war that broke out between neighboring countries. In one word, China cannot tolerate a major war between its neighbors. He also said that India may not prioritize any major military confrontation, as its trade talks with the US are in the last stages regarding the fees of President Donald Trump.
Hu Sheesheng said, “PM Modi’s team aims to take advantage of the strategic opportunity period when the US will use tariff sticks against China and attract foreign investment.” What will China’s attitude be on the deteriorating situation, Hu Sheeshang said that first China will work through organizations like diplomatic mediums, bilateral, tripartite and SCO, BRICS and United Nations, will help in searching for peaceful solutions between Pakistan and India and to prevent stress from growing.
Hu Sheeshang said that if the situation worsens, China will have to be cautious in the border areas with India, because it can cause some damage. He said that Beijing will also protect its investment in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and will take some necessary steps to protect national interests within Pakistan.
