Negi died in Shimla. He was ill since a long time. Negi served several important positions in his career. He was the Superintendent of Police of Nainital and Lakhimpur in Uttar Pradesh. Apart from this, he also worked as Police Commissioner of ITBP, CISF, SSB, CID and Delhi.

Many senior officials and public representatives were present at the funeral. These included DIG Digvijay Negi, ASP Ratan Negi, Deputy Commissioner of Kinnaur, Dr. Amit Kumar Sharma, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shekhar and SDM Dr. Shashank Gupta, SDM. Also, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sonam Negi, former MLA Tejwant Negi, Congress President Umesh Negi, BJP leader Surat Negi and Zilla Parishad member Hitesh Negi were also present.
