We have brought you a special series ‘Success Mantra’, in which we will tell you today IAS Hemant Pareek, who saw poverty very closely and made it come to the IAS officer and realized the dream of becoming an IAS officer.
Know who is IAS Hemant Pareek
Hemant Pareek belongs to an ordinary family of a small village in Rajasthan. The financial condition of his family was very weak. His father used to work as a priest in a temple in the village and mother used to run household expenses under MNREGA. He was unable to work as physical labor due to Hemant having disability in one hand. In such a situation, his mother used to bear the expenses of maintenance and education of children.
Hemant’s childhood was spent in extreme difficulties. The financial condition of the family was so bad that many times he had to struggle to eat. But these problems did not weaken Hemant’s spirits, but raised the dream of becoming a big officer in him.
When an incident changed Hemant’s life
A day came in Hemant Pareek’s life that changed both his thinking and direction. It happened that his mother used to work under MNREGA and worked in the fields throughout the day. One day Hemant went to his mother’s contractor to pay Rs 220 for wages. But the contractor made fun of him and said, “Are you the collector of this village who has come to ask for money?”
This incident deeply shook Hemant’s heart. On the same day, Hemant decided that one day he would really show as the Collector (IAS) and will answer those who make fun of poverty.
Struggle to study amid poverty
Hemant continued his studies, but due to poverty he faced a lot of difficulties. He did not have money for coaching or books. He graduated from the subject of Agriculture and started preparing for UPSC. During college days, fellow students and senior used to make fun of their English weak. But Hemant did not give up and focused on his studies with hard work. He had to be hungry many times during his studies. On Sunday, the campus mess was closed, so that day they often used to stay hungry so that they could continue studying by saving money.
Pass UPSC exam in the first attempt
Hemant Pareek worked hard with any coaching and limited resources and passed the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) in his first attempt in 2023. He achieved the All India Rank (Air) 884 and was selected for the IAS (Indian Administrative Service). His achievement made the entire village and family proud.
Responsibility after becoming IAS
Today, Hemant Pareek is posted as Municipal Commissioner of Dharamshala Municipal Corporation and CEO of Waqf Board. Their success is proof that if the intentions are strong and the passion of working hard, then any person can change his luck.
