About Eat Walk Tours – The Original Food Tour Since 2011
Eat Walk Tours is locally owned and operated, and have been successfully running tours in Scotland since 2011.
After taking our wonderful tour with them, it was quite easy to see, they are very passionate about their business, and what they offer to their guests.

You will experience a variety of delicious local food tastings, along with both; alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage choices along the way.
Together with sampling a number of superb eateries on your tour, your guide will lead you through a number of historical areas of Old Town, pointing out the significance of each, along the way.

Old Town & The Royal Mile
Filled with history and the many historical sites and buildings, the Royal Mile in Old Town, is definitely worth seeing and included in this guided Edinburgh walking food tour.
The Old Town is over 1,000 years old, making it the oldest part of Edinburgh. The Royal Mile has been the main street of Edinburgh for centuries, and the most popular place to visit for tourists.
As you walk along the street, your guide will point out the history behind many of the street’s names and what this area used to be like many centuries ago.
One such street is Edinburgh’s oldest and most colorful … Victoria Street.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Victoria Street is also extremely popular with visitors, located just off the Royal Mile.
This street is also famous with Harry Potter fans as … Diagon Alley.
A few other areas of interest your guide will take you to include:
Bute House, which became the official residence for the First Minister of Scotland.
This 18th Century townhouse has been the official residence of the First Minister of Scotland since 1999.
Adjacent is Charlotte Square Private Garden and the Prince Albert Memorial.
Erected in 1872, The Albert Memorial commemorates the death of Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s husband, who died of typhoid fever at the age of 42.
The Scott Monument
Princes Street Gardens are separate Old and New towns of Edinburgh. Formerly known as the; Nor’ Loch, a virtual wasteland.
With the construction of the New Town in the late 18th century, the Nor’ Loch was drained, in order for Edinburgh’s two sides to connect.
Today, it is one of the city’s beautiful pedestrian parks known as … Princes Street Gardens.
Located in Princes Street Gardens, the Scott Monument.
This 1846 Gothic monument, is one of the most iconic landmarks in Edinburgh.
Dedicated to Sir Walter Scott, it is one of the largest monuments to a writer anywhere in the world.
The Tron Kirk is a former principal parish church in Edinburgh, Scotland. It is a well-known landmark on the Royal Mile. It was constructed in the 17th century and closed as a church in 1952.
The Thistle Street Bar is a traditional Scottish pub housed in a property built in 1780 and located in the oldest street in Edinburgh’s New Town.
A traditional pub that reflects the history and heritage of the New Town.
A Taste Of Your Edinburgh Walking Food Tour
Our tour included a stop at 4, very unique restaurants & pubs. All within easy and an enjoyable walking distance from each other.
We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful afternoon, for the end of September. The sun was shining and the outside temperature was warm and comfortable. Below, is just a sneak peek at what we enjoyed on our superb food tour.
Food items will change continually, as the venues you will be attending, do change their menus on a continual basis.
You will have a choice of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. A selection of craft beer and/or whiskey, is the preferred alcoholic choice.
Under the Stairs
Under the Stairs is a very cool basement bar/restaurant, located in Old Town. It’s hidden away underneath the iconic George IV Bridge.
A very casual, warm looking eatery that not only served delicious Mac + Cheese, but also local craft beer and/or whiskey.
A great first start to our food and beverage tasting, as well as being a perfect place, to get acquainted with fellow guests on the tour with us.

Rabble Taphouse & Grill
Our next stop was to the Rabble Taphouse & Grill, located across the walkway into; New Town.
Along the way, our guide Sarah made numerous stops of interest, explaining the city’s deep history.
Rabble is a very unique; 4 star hotel, bar/restaurant in New Town. The interior of the restaurant has a very stylish chic look design.
A complete contrast, from our first stop on the tour!
This is where our group was able to sample a local Scottish favorite; A Ham Hock Scotch Egg.
We all agreed in the group, how it was presented and served was excellent!
My wife and I chose Crabbie’s Original Ginger Beer, as our drink of choice.
It tasted great and as a matter of fact, we continued to purchase this Ginger Beer,
while on our lengthy road trip afterwards.

Whighams Wine Cellar
One of Edinburgh’s historic hidden gems in New Town, Whighams has been an iconic wine bar/restaurant in the city,
since 1983.
This popular establishment sits on the site of early 19th century cellars, located in the basement of a private residence in Charlotte Square.
Situated in a former wine cellar dating back over 250 years!
Oh, but it was time to sample what Scotland is best known for …
Haggis, and the very popular; Cullen Skink!
The national dish of Scotland, haggis is a mixture of the liver, heart, and lungs of a sheep.
It’s minced and mixed with beef or mutton suet and oatmeal, seasoned with onion, cayenne pepper, and other spices.
You simply can’t come to Scotland without trying their signature dish!
Served as a croquette, it was quite tasty. 🙂
Cullen Skink is a hearty Scottish soup, consisting of; smoked haddock, potatoes and onions.
We all agreed, the soup was outstanding!

Contini George Street
This long standing restaurant is in a former; Bank of Scotland banking hall.
It has been beautifully modelled on a “Florentine Palazzo,” serving award winning
authentic Italian upscale cuisine for over 20 years.
What a wonderful way to finish our extraordinary cultural food tour experience, then at this highly rated restaurant in New Town.
Finishing off the tour was a chance to sample some home grown whiskey, served with fresh peaches and rich ice cream.

We’ve taken a number of food tours over the years, in different parts of the world. It’s one of our most favorite things to do when traveling to new destinations.
This tour definitely rated as one of the best we’ve taken. Together with the excellent food and drink samplings, the walking part of the tour, was excellent as well.
We learned so much about the history of the city and the significance of many of the historic buildings, landmarks and streets along the way.
