Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin said on Thursday that forcibly imposing Hindi ended 25 North Indian languages in 100 years.
Stalin posted on X on Thursday and said- A unbroken Hindi identity attempt is ending ancient languages. Uttar Pradesh and Bihar were never Hindi areas. Now his real languages have become a sign of the past.
Stalin wrote- My dear sisters and brothers of other states, have you ever thought how many Indian languages have been swallowed by Hindi? Bhojpuri, Maithili, Awadhi, Braj, Bundeli, Garhwali, Kumaoni, Magahi, Marwari, Malvi, Chhattisgarhi, Santhali, Angika, Ho, Kharia, Khoretha, Kurmali, Kurukh, Mundari, and many languages are now gasping for survival.
At the same time, BJP described Stalin’s statement as silly.

On February 23, the Education Minister wrote a letter to Stalin On the TRAI language dispute, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan wrote a letter to Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin. He criticized the opposition of the National Education Policy (NEP) in the state.
He wrote, ‘There is no question of imposing any language. But excessive dependence on foreign languages limits itself. The new National Education Policy (NEP) is trying to fix it. NEP maintains linguistic freedom and ensures that students continue to learn the language of their choice.
Dharmendra Pradhan in his letter, referring to PM Modi’s ‘Tamil language eternal’ in Chennai in May 2022, wrote- Modi government is fully committed to promoting and popularizing Tamil culture and language globally. I appeal not to politicize education.

Under NEP 2020, students must learn 3 languages, but no language has been made mandatory. States and schools have the freedom to decide which 3 languages they want to teach.
It has been recommended to study in primary classes (class 1 to 5) in mother tongue or local language. At the same time, it is mandatory to study 3 languages in middle classes (class 6 to 10). It will be English or a modern Indian language in a non-Hindi speaking state. If the second and 12th school wants to give foreign language as an alternative.
Hindi second language among non-Hindi speaking states The emphasis is on studying classes up to 5th and where possible in the mother tongue, local or regional language. At the same time, Hindi can be taught as a second language in non-Hindi speaking states. Also, in Hindi speaking states, there may be another Indian language (eg Tamil, Bengali, Telugu etc.) as a second language.
It is not mandatory to adopt a language States and schools have the freedom to decide which three languages they will teach. There is no provision to impose any language compulsorily.
