The Telangana government is going to implement the Scheduled Castes Classification Act from Ambedkar Jayanti on Monday i.e. 14 April. State Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the law has got the green signal of the Supreme Court.
Telangana will become the first state in the country to apply classifications among the SC castes. Its purpose is to rationalize the existing 15% reservation for SC castes. For this, sub-castes of 59 Scheduled Castes are divided into 3 groups on the basis of backwardness.
The first group has 15 most backward castes. These are 3.28% of the SC population. They will get 1% reservation. The second group has 18 castes, which are 62.74%. They will get 9% reservation. The third group has 26 relatively better castes. Their stake in the SC population is 33.96%. They will get 5% reservation.
