For the first time in Mumbai, World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit 2025 has been held. A four -day event has been organized with the aim of promoting India’s media and entertainment industry at global level. Actor Aamir Khan joined the panel discussion on the second day of Waves 2025. Here he raised the issue of theaters in the ‘Studios of the Future: Putting India on World Map’ session.

Only 2% of the population goes theater
During the session, Aamir said that I always believe that we have less theater than the country’s population. The biggest problem for the last several years is that the number of theaters in our country is very less. Only 2% of our population watches movies in theaters. I think we should invest money on it. If there is no cinema, people will not be able to watch the film. Just keep listening about him.
Keeping his point further, Aamir says- ‘India has about 10,000 screens, out of which 47 percent is in South India. Because of this, you have more than 5 thousand screens for a Hindi film. At the same time, there are 40 thousand screens in America, 90 thousand screens in China. America’s population is less than us.

OTT platforms are impacting on films
In his discussion, Aamir also spoke on the OTT vs theater debate. He described this business model as ridiculous and trilateral.
He said that the earnings of films have been affected due to the OTT platform. In the recent times, the films come on the OTT platform 45 days after its release. Because of this people avoid going to the cinema. The time between theater and the OTT release is very short, as a result of the loss. When we say that films are not going on, we should also keep the OTT platform in mind.
For the first time a government has thought about the industry
Aamir praised the NDA -led Central Government for starting talks on creative industry through Waves 2025. The actor said, ‘I have been in this field for almost 35 years. Over the years, I have not seen any government that has ever thought about it. This is the first time that a government has used its mind and emotions to strengthen the media and entertainment industry and to lead us to the world.
