The JPC report was presented in Parliament on the Waqf bill on the last day of the first phase of the budget session.
The Union Cabinet has approved the Waqf Amendment Bill. According to media reports, the bill received the cabinet consent in the meeting held on February 19. The government can present it in the second part of the budget session of Parliament. The second part of the budget session will run from 10 March to 4 April.
A new draft of the Waqf Bill has been prepared based on the report of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). Earlier in the first phase of the budget session, the JPC report on the Waqf Bill was presented in Parliament on 13 February. The opposition described the report as fake. After this there was an uproar in Parliament.
On 27 January, the JPC, investigating the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, approved the draft report. 44 amendments were discussed in the JPC meeting. 14 amendments of NDA MPs led by the BJP were accepted, while the opposition’s amendments were rejected outright.
In August 2024, the Waqf Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha by Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. It was then sent to JPC. After this, JPC reported 655 pages on this.

Government’s answer- Opposition members can add their words to the report under the parliamentary system After the opposition’s objection, Home Minister Amit Shah said that some members of the opposition had objected that their opinion was not added to it. I want to say that the members of the opposition can add whatever they want to add under the parliamentary work system. His party has no objection to this.
On January 30, the JPC president submitted the report to the Lok Sabha Speaker On January 30, JPC submitted the draft report to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. During this, JPC President Jagdambika Pal, Nishikant Dubey and other BJP MPs were present. No opposition MP was seen. JPC approved the draft report on 29 January. 16 members voted in its favor. At the same time, 11 members protested. Opposition MPs involved in the committee objected to this bill.

AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi had said, we had received a 655 -page draft report. It was impossible to read the 655 -page report in one night. I have disagreed and will oppose this bill in Parliament as well.

The first meeting was held on 22 August Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced Waqf Bill 2024 in the Lok Sabha on 8 August. Opposition parties, including the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, opposed this bill and described it as anti -Muslim.
The bill was sent to JPC without any discussion in the Lok Sabha amidst the objection of the opposition and heavy opposition. The first meeting of the 31 -member JPC on the Waqf Bill Amendment was held on 22 August. 44 amendments were to be discussed in the bill.
