When asked about the summit talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month, Trump said, “I have very good relations with India, but my only problem with India is that he is one of the highest charges in the world.” The US President said, “I believe that they are probably going to cut those fees to a great extent. However, on April 2, we will charge the same fee from them as they charge from us. ”
Trump has described India as Tariff King
Trump has repeatedly criticized India’s high fees on American products. He has said that India is a very high charge country. He has also called India a ‘tariff king’ in the past. During a joint press conference with Prime Minister Modi at the White House last month, Trump had said that India has been very strict in terms of customs duty.
Trump had said in early March that India has agreed to “cut” its fee. However, Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal had told a parliamentary committee on March 10 that negotiations about this were still going on and no agreement has been reached on trade fee between Indo-US.
