Rashmika Mandana, who became Pan India star, was not easy. After his debut with Kirik Party, he faced double shifts, screen tests and rejections, but did not give up. Pushpa’s success gave him recognition in every household.

Now excited about her first solo film ‘The Girlfriend’, Rashmika spoke openly on her struggle, stardom and new project in a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar.

Many times the body replied, but still had to go to the set

It was a very difficult period. It seemed that I was running away with full force, but the floor could not be seen. Was working hard day and night – double shifts, dialog coaching, screen test, rejections. Many times it happened that the body responded, but still had to go on the set.

Hands would burn, sometimes stomach ache, yet had to handle yourself. But this was the time when I promised myself that this struggle would never go in vain. Whenever she was disappointed, she used to say to herself – ‘Good days will come, just keep walking.’ This thinking became my biggest strength.

I am my biggest competition myself

I am never completely satisfied. After every film, I think, ‘What can I do better now?’ When ‘Pushpa’, it felt that it is best, but now I think what beyond this? I am my biggest competition myself.

I do not want people to compare me with someone else. My focus is always on improving myself. It is more important for me to feel connected to me. When people start loving your truth, success and failure do not matter.

I just don’t want a moment’s stardom

When people from cities like Delhi, Patna, Mumbai adopt me, it seems the biggest achievement for me. I just don’t want a moment’s stardom, but I want love that remains for a long time. Like it says, ‘Daughter of the house’, I want people to adopt me in the same way.

I want to be a part of people’s hearts, want to be in their conversation. This is the reason why I put my life in every film. Now when people give so much love, it seems that my hard work is going in the right direction.

My work is now confident, which was not before

In these years, I learned a lot and have evolved myself a lot. In the early days I was performing, but I did not have that much confidence. People used to say that I look good on the screen, but I was not satisfied with my own work.

Today I know that when I come on screen, people focus on me. There is now a confidence in my work, which was not before. This is the biggest change for me and I am proud of it.

‘The Girlfriend’ is my baby film

‘The Girlfriend’ is a very special film for me. This is a different kind of story, which has emotion and drama. I have taken this film as the biggest responsibility of my career. I consider it to be my ‘baby film’, because everything here was on me. The whole team has worked hard with heart and I am sure that the audience will definitely like this film.
