After the statement made by Himachal Pradesh Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri on the Shanan project, the politics of Punjab has once again been hot. On this issue, Aam Aadmi Party Punjab chief and cabinet minister Aman Arora says that anyone says anything, whether deputy CM
,
We will fight our administrative and legal battle till the last breath and will not let anyone rob the rights of Punjab.
Himachal Deputy CM said this
In fact, Himachal Pradesh Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri had said in a program that Shanan Power Project is ours. In this case we are not going to retreat even an inch. This is not a matter of property sharing under the Punjab Reorganization Act, as Shanan or Mandi have never been a part of Punjab.
When Mandi is not part of Punjab and Shanan is completely built on Himachal land, then this project is also from Himachal. The Deputy Chief Minister said that the agreement between Punjab and Himachal government has ended in 2024. Now the Himachal government will take this project under its control. He urged Punjab to hand over the project to Himachal if he is truly Himachal’s elder brother.

Land for Shanan Project in 1925
In 1925, the then King Mandi gave land on the Government of India on lease for 99 years for the Shanan Power Project. The lease has ended in March 2024. The project is to be occupied by Himachal Pradesh after the lease is over, but Punjab is not ready to leave it. The Punjab government has approached the Supreme Court to maintain the Shanan project, while the Himachal government is protecting its rights in the court.
