Who are Principal Secretary
Let us tell you that the Principal Secretary is an officer of the Indian Administrative Service. Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister is the Chief Advisor and Senior Administrative Officer of the Prime Minister. It looks at policy making, administrative functions and important government affairs for the Prime Minister. It is usually elected from the senior most officers of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and the Prime Minister appoints it. If we talk about the works of the Principal Secretary, then it advises the Prime Minister on various policy matters, it has the power to establish coordination between various ministries and agencies of the government. Apart from this, the Principal Secretary operates the Prime Minister’s Office and advises the PM on national, international issues.
Who are the chief secretaries
If we talk about the Chief Secretary, then the Chief Secretary of the Prime Minister is a senior bureaucrat, who works in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). It is also an IAS officer who reports directly to the Prime Minister. The Chief Secretary is usually a senior IAS officer, who is appointed as per the Prime Minister’s choice. This post is considered equivalent to the cabinet secretary, but its work is taken entirely to the Prime Minister. The Chief Secretary informs the Prime Minister on domestic and global issues and gives strategic suggestions. Apart from this, the Chief Secretary presents matters related to different ministries and government departments to the Prime Minister and monitors them.

How much is the salary of both
Let us tell you that the post of Principal Secretary is equal to the post of Cabinet Minister. Their monthly salary is usually more than 2 lakh 50 thousand rupees. Apart from this, the government also gives many different allowances to these officers. In these allowances, they get housing, car, staff, medical facilities etc. So if we talk about the Chief Secretary, then it is an IAS officer and its monthly salary is 2 lakh 25 thousand rupees.
