Hadi Matar (27 years), who attacked Indian -origin author Salman Rushdie with a knife, has been convicted by a New York court attempt and attack. Matar attacked Rushdie 15 times with a knife during an event in New York in August 2022.
Rushdie suffered serious injuries on the head, neck, torso and left palm. He had one eye light. One hand was paralyzed due to the vein cut. Apart from this, his liver and intestines also suffered serious damage.
The date of the sentence of Matar has been fixed on 23 April. It is believed that he can now be jailed for more than 30 years.

Rushdie himself testified in court, said- I felt that I am going to die The case lasted for 2 weeks in the Chautaqwa County Court in New York. The court also held Matar guilty of injuring Henry Keys, who was interviewing Rushdie. Keys suffered a minor head injury. When Rushdie was attacked, there were more than 1000 people in that room.
During the hearing in the case, 77 -year -old Salman Rushdie himself testified in court. Rushdie told the jury that initially he felt that the attacker had punched him. But later he realized that a lot of blood was coming out of his clothes. He was attacked several times with a knife. During this time he felt that he was about to die.
Rushdie also removed his black lens glasses to show the damaged right eye in court. Rushdie also pointed to the parts of the body where he had a knife. The author said that now he is no longer as energetic as he was earlier.
At the same time, Matar, who was convicted, did not testify in his defense. His lawyer also refused to call any of his witnesses.
