Liverpool clinched the Premier League title in style on Sunday as they thrashed Tottenham 5-1 at Anfield.
The Reds went into the game knowing they needed just a point to seal a record-tying 20th English league title, but it appeared early on as if they might fail to get it when Dominic Solanke powered Tottenham into a 12th-minute lead.
But Luis Diaz quickly restored parity four minutes later and Liverpool, aided by an error-strewn Tottenham display, took command as goals from Alexis MacAllister and Cody Gakpo made it 3-1 at half-time.
Mohamed Salah scored a trademark fourth to put the game beyond any doubt, with an own goal from Destiny Udogie putting the gloss on the game that rubber-stamped a title that has long been Liverpool’s destiny.

Liverpool v Tottenham
Salah fired a sighter over the crossbar in the third minute and then sent an overhead kick wide from a corner in a pair of early warnings Spurs failed to heed.
But proceedings veered off script as Spurs were rewarded for some dangerous early forays, Solanke’s superb header from a corner leaving Alisson helpless.
Diaz tucked home a leveller from point-blank range that was initially ruled out for offside against Dominik Szoboszlai in the build-up, but VAR deemed the Hungarian was in line with the Tottenham defence as he latched on to a Salah pass and squared for his Colombian teammate.
A lazy Mathys Tel pass enabled MacAllister to make it 2-1, doing so with a spectacular strike from the edge of the area. Cody Gakpo, who had earlier had a goal rightly ruled out for offside, converted with a clever finish after Tottenham failed to clear a corner.
Spurs never threatened what would have been a remarkable comeback, and Liverpool gave the scoreline a deservedly emphatic look with two more goals in the second half.
Fittingly, the first came from Salah in trademark fashion as he cut in from the right and fired a 63rd-minute strike beyond the hapless Guglielmo Vicario, a goal he celebrated with a selfie with the Kop that will likely very quickly become a collector’s item.
That marked Salah’s 46th goal involvement of another stunning season for the Egyptian, and he was only prevented from tying the record of 47 owned by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer by the outstretched boot of Udogie, who inadvertently turned Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross into his own net.
Salah would have had his brace late on had Darwin Nunez produced a more accurate square pass at the end of a two-on-one break, his inability to do epitomising why he is likely not going to remain at Anfield beyond this season.
But there will be time for long goodbyes, and plenty of time for Salah to break that goal involvements record in the final four games. There was no focus on records or transfers at the final whistle, which sparked delirious scenes as the Anfield crowd joyously grasped the opportunity to partake in the title party they were denied by the pandemic in 2021.
It will be a prolonged celebration for Liverpool, one that will reach its zenith on May 25 when they lift the Premier League trophy at Anfield following the final game of the season against Crystal Palace.
