In this, Rahul wrote, the Congress party is fully committed to every child to get equal access to education and eliminate ethnic discrimination. Unless every student gets respect, security and equal opportunity without discrimination, our education system cannot be just for all. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi has also written the same letter to the Chief Ministers of Karnataka and Telangana.
What is Rohit Vemula Act?
The Rohit Vemula Act is a proposed law, which aims to prevent caste discrimination and oppression in higher educational institutions in India. It is named after Rohit Vemula, a Dalit PhD student of Hyderabad University. Rohit Bemula committed suicide due to 2016 caste discrimination.
The Act focuses on protecting the rights of students of Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and other disadvantaged communities and ensure equality in the education system.
Rahul Gandhi expressed concern
In a letter to the Chief Minister, Rahul emphasized the need for legal protection against caste discrimination in education. Gandhi said in his letter, “It is a shame that even today millions of students of Dalits, Adivasi and OBC communities have to face such cruel discrimination in our education system.
