What is Rohit Vemula Act?

The Rohit Vemula Act is a proposed law, which aims to prevent caste discrimination and oppression in higher educational institutions in India. It is named after Rohit Vemula, a Dalit PhD student of Hyderabad University. Rohit Bemula committed suicide due to 2016 caste discrimination.

The Act focuses on protecting the rights of students of Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and other disadvantaged communities and ensure equality in the education system.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, Rahul emphasized the need for legal protection against caste discrimination in education.
