PSG Continue UCL Run After Eliminating Liverpool

Paris Saint-Germain march into the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League despite losing their first leg tie against Liverpool last week. Luis Enrique’s men turned things around and made their way into the next round after beating the Reds in a penalty shoot-out.

PSG Eliminated Liverpool at Anfield

The Ligue 1 outfit didn’t have the best situation as they must go to Anfield chasing a 1-0 aggregate from their first meeting. Despite having to chase the game, PSG players didn’t show any lack of confidence as they put on a solid attacking performance straight from kick-off.

Although Liverpool also looked dangerous early on, it was Enrique’s side that got the goal they were looking for after just 12 minutes of play through Ousmane Dembele. That goal puts them level with the Reds on aggregate, giving the French outfit more calmness in playing their game.

Both teams continued to push forward as they were searching for the potential winning goals that could seal the tie. Unfortunately, neither team were able to get that winner during normal time up til the 2×15 extra time.

Donnarumma the Hero for PSG in the Penalty Shootout

Since neither team were able to score another goal, the match went to penalties, which saw Donnarumma turned into the hero. The Italian international was subject to criticism because of his blunder that led to Liverpool scoring the unlikely winner, but he made it up at Anfield.

The former AC Milan star managed to save two spot kicks, from Darwin Nunez and Crutis Jones, helping PSG winning the shoot out 4-1. All of the French side’s penalty takers scored while Salah was the only one who scored hor Liverpool.

PSG’s victory means they will continue their Champions League hope as they go through into the quarterfinals. Enrique’s side are set to meet either Aston Villa or Club Brugge, with the Premier League side being the more likely at the moment. Unai Emery’s men are currently leading in aggregate after winning their first leg 3-1 in Brugge, Belgium.
