Pope Election Process Explained: Inside The Vatican Conclave

The Vatican has officially announced that the papal conclave to elect the next pope will begin on May 7, 2025. This decision was made during a meeting attended by nearly 180 cardinals in Rome. Before the conclave starts, a solemn mass will be held to pray for divine guidance. Cardinals will then proceed to the Sistine Chapel, where they will swear an oath of secrecy and begin the election process. The chapel will be sealed, allowing only the electors inside. A meditation will mark the start of the conclave, and voting will be conducted in strict isolation. A two-thirds majority is required to choose the next pope, with smoke signals revealing the outcome after each round of voting.
