PM Modi is on a two -day tour of Assam.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on two days of Assam. They reached Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati on Monday evening. He said, ‘There was a time when the development of Assam and Northeast was ignored in the country. The culture here was also ignored. But Modi himself has become the brand ambassador of the Northeast culture.
In fact, the Assam government organized Jhumoir Binandini (Mega Jhumoir) 2025 program on completion of 200 years of Assam tea industry. 8600 artists from the areas of tea garden across the state performed Jhumoir dance in front of the PM. Mission heads of 60 countries including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also attended the program.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma honored the PM by giving arrow command and basket to deposit tea. PM Modi also played drums on the stage. PM will also stay in Assam on 25 February. He will inaugurate the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit in Guwahati.

3 big things of PM Modi’s speech …
- I am the first Prime Minister to stop in Kaziranga, Assam and tell the world about its biodiversity. A few months ago, we have given Assamia the status of classical language. The people of Assam were waiting for this honor for their language for decades.
- The BJP government is developing Assam and is also serving the tea farmers here. The income of workers working in gardens should increase. In this direction, a bonus has also been announced for the workers of Assam Tea Corporation.
- Our sisters and daughters working in gardens struggled with income crisis during pregnancy. Today, about 15 lakh women are being given assistance of Rs 15,000 during pregnancy so that they do not have to worry about the expenditure.
What is tea plantation community?
- The word tea tribe means the laborers working in tea gardens, their descendants from the multi-cultural and multi-caste community. These people came from central India.
- Most of these people are from Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal. All these people settled in Assam to work in the British -established tea gardens in the 19th century.
- Currently, generations of these people are working in existing tea gardens. Those who are present in Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Charidev, Golaghat, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Udalguri, Karimganj and Barak Valley.
- These people have the status of Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the state. However, these people demand to include in ST. The laborers of some big gardens who are from the Munda or Santhal tribes have the status of ST.
- According to Assam Directorate of T Driver and Tribal Welfare, these people are a major part of the state’s population. Also play a major role in tea production. But they are socio-economicly marginalized and are one of the poorest people in the state.
Now know what is a jhumoir dance?
Jhumoir dance includes both women and men. In this, women dance and sing. Men play traditional instruments such as Matla, Dhol or Dhaka (Drum), Jhanjh, Flute and Shehnai.
People of every community joining the dance have a separate dress. However, most women are wearing red-white saris. During the dance, everyone stands shoulder to shoulder.
All people follow the same pattern during dance and sing songs in Nagpuri, Khoratha and Kurmali.
