Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for a two -day state visit to Mauritius, the country in the Indian Ocean today i.e. on Tuesday. Here he will attend the 57th National Day celebrations of Mauritius on 12 March as the chief guest.
In this visit, PM Modi will sign several agreements to carry forward the economic and security relations of both countries. This is the second visit to Mauritius of Indian PM after 2015.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that a contingent of the Indian Army, a Navy’s Waraship and the Akash Ganga Sky Diving Team of the Air Force will also participate in the national function of Mauritius.

It is a good fortune to host such a respected personality for our country, who despite our busy schedule, has agreed to come to us as the chief guest. PM Modi’s visit is evidence of strong relations between the two countries.
In this visit of PM Modi, many important issues can be discussed, including the impact of global trade and American tariffs. Along with this, there will be discussion on cooperation in defense, trade, capacity building and maritime security.

India has been a full partner of Mauritius. In 2022, Mauritius was given a help of about $ 1.1 billion to the India Development Project.
There will be discussion on increasing mutual partnership in Indian Ocean Foreign Secretary Vikram Egyptian said that the main objective of the partnership between India and Mauritius is to increase marine security. The two countries recognize the strategic significance of the Indian Ocean.
In PM Modi’s visit, MoU can be signed for sharing white-showing information between India and Mauritius.
Explain that information is exchanged about the identification and movement of commercial, non-singing vessels under White Shipping. This helps in strengthening marine security.

There was a dispute between Britain and Mauritius over the island of Chagos for nearly 50 years. India had been trying for a long time between the two. With the help of India 5 months ago, both sides reached an agreement.
According to the agreement, Chagos Islands made up of 60 islands were given to Mauritius.
There is also Diego Garcia Island on the island of Chagos. The US and Britain have maintained a joint military base here. According to the agreement, the US-Britain base will remain here for up to 99 years.
