NAAC Removes Around 900 Assessors Many Dismissed After Recent CBI Bribery Arrests NAAC ने करीब 900 अस्सेर्स को निकाला, हाल ही में रिश्वत मामले में CBI गिरफ्तारी के बाद कई को हटाया

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has recently removed around 900 assessors, which used to evaluate 5,000 institutions every year. The work of these assets was that they used to visit higher education institutions and issue NAAC grades based on their performance. These assets used to prepare reports of institutions that later determined their NAAC grade.

Action has been going on for the last six months

This action has been taken during the last six months over one year, but most of the assets have been removed recently. Especially, on February 1, CBI arrested 10 people in Andhra Pradesh, including six members of the NAAC inspection committee and officials of the Konaru Laxaya Education Foundation. After these arrests, around 400 assets were removed and the rest of the assets are still being reviewed.

NAAC’s assets are academic people who are part of a ‘Peer team’ and visit an institution. They prepare a report, which decides which NAAC grade that institute will get. NAAC asks for these assets to make a team from professors who specialize in various subjects.

Due to these 900 assets were removed

About 900 assets have been removed for several reasons. Some assers were not active or they were not invited to visit institutions, while some Assers did not prepare the report properly. This meant that in some cases, high scores were given without giving clear reason. In addition, some assets had only incomplete data.

NAAC started a review of some values in April-May of 2023, when it was felt that a lot of A ++ grades were being given. NAAC began a new process to ensure what enough and appropriate reasons were in cases of high grade. Especially cases were reviewed where the institute had acquired a grade in the first cycle and the second cycle improved that grade by 2 or more. During this period, about 400 values were reviewed, out of which half the institutions were given less grade.

Now inspection will be done in a new way

Now NAAC has decided that they will adopt virtual visits for institutions and hybrid systems for universities, so that evaluation can be more transparent and fair. NAAC director Ganesan Kannabiran said that he is working continuously for improvement and wants to ensure that on the day of evaluation, the institute should know who is evaluating them.

In 2024, NAAC has announced a improvement in its assessment process, under which binary accounting system will be implemented instead of grade. Under this, the institute will be identified as ‘Accredited’, ‘Awaiting Acredation’ or ‘Not Acradated’. This new system may be applicable from May.
