In this episode of Reel to Real, we will understand what is the process of title registration of films.

The titles of films are not just names, but there is a complete strategy behind it. The titles of some films are such that the eagerness to see the film increases on hearing. Sometimes there is so much controversy about the title of films that it has to change.

How the title of any film is decide, what is the process of registration of it, today you will understand in this episode of Reel to Real. To understand this entire process, we talked to Empa President Abhay Sinha and President’s President Sangram Shirke.

Rs 250 in Producers Association. From Rs 500 The title is registered in

When a producer plans to make a film, he first has to register his production company. When the story of the film is ready, the process of finalizing the title begins. 500 rupees (including GST) are charged for title registration. Some associations register the title of the film for Rs 250.

Four associations together decide the title of the film

Film producers have four associations. Which includes the Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association, Western India Film Producers Association, Producers Guild of India and Indian Films and Producers Council.

The producer gets the title registered in the association whose member is a member. After that, the association officials send the title to the remaining three associations and confirm that the title is not registered there. If there is an objection from there, then the title producer does not get it. They are then suggested to change the title.

Confirmation of title is available within a month

Usually one thousand titles come in an association for registration in a month. After that, the committee members of all the association together dissect the title. 22 people join the committee. The committee has a meeting twice every month.

It is noted in the meeting that the title should not have vulgarity. Or there should be no disputed title, due to which there is a problem later. A producer can register 15 titles in every language.

Fast-track facility is available for title registration

If a producer needs the title quickly or the film is close to release, but the title of the film is not registered, then the title can be registered at a special fee of Rs 3000 at a fast-track facility. Under this process, the title is decided within a week.

Online request facility

Now online application and payment facility for title registration is also available. After applying, the applicant is informed by email whether he will get the title of the film or not. If the title of a producer is rejected, he can apply again.

Title allotment rules

If a producer does not make a film for two years after registering the title, then another producer can apply for that title. For this, the first title holder is asked whether they will use the title. If they retreat, the title can be given to the new applicant.

Selling the title unofficially is against the rules, but such incidents keep coming up. If a producer offers a film without title registration, then a penalty is sent by sending a notice to him.

What are the things to take care of?

Western India Film Producers Association (Faifpa) President Sangram Shirke said- It has to be noted not to give the title of the film to TV or web series. Sometimes three-four films are made from a similar title. As three films were made together on Bhagat Singh’s life, there were many quarrels about the title at that time, we had to handle it.

We have 35 thousand members and 25 thousand members in Empa. So we get more titles. The rest of the association does not have so many members, so they do not have much title. If the title is not made for two-three years after the title is registered, then the producer has to surrender the title. Do not give the title of classic films like Mother India to anyone.
