Mea on shahzadi Khan execution: Shahzadi Khan, a 33 -year -old Indian citizen of Banda district of Uttar Pradesh, was hanged in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for killing a child. Reacting to this, the Ministry of External Affairs (Mea) said that the UAE’s Supreme Court, Court of Cassation upheld the death sentence and was sentenced as per local laws.
Mea reported that the Indian Embassy in the UAE provided all possible legal aid to Shehzadi, which included the mercy petition and forgiveness request with the UAE government.
Family claims: ‘justice not found’
Shehzadi’s father Shabbir Khan alleged that the government did not give enough support and his daughter did not get justice. He said, “I tried my best, but I had no money to go to Abu Dhabi and keep a lawyer. The government did not support us.”
What was the whole matter?
Shehzadi Khan was taking care of her baby born in August 2022. On 07 December 2022, the infant died after vaccination. The hospital suggested the post-mortem, but the parents refused to investigate. A video surfaced in February 2023, in which she was seen confessing the murder of a princess. Shehzadi claimed that it was forcibly confessed, which was the result of torture and misconduct. On 10 February 2023, Shehzadi was handed over to the Abu Dhabi police and was sentenced to death on 31 July 2023.
Legal effort and mercy petition
In September 2023, the appeal against the death sentence was rejected. On 28 February 2024, the court upheld the sentence. In May and July 2024, Shehzadi’s father filed a mercy petition through the Indian embassy, but no response was received. On 14 February 2025, Shehzadi called from jail and told that he was to be hanged. On 15 February 2025, the official notice of which the Indian Embassy received on 28 February 2025. There will be a funeral on 5 March 2025, in which the family is allowed to attend.
