The last time the government had reduced the prices of cylinders by Rs 100 on Women’s Day on 8 March 2024. Then the cylinder in Delhi was Rs 903.

Why did oil marketing companies increase prices?

Petroleum Minister said- Oil marketing companies have suffered a loss of about Rs 41,000 crore due to selling cylinders at a lower price. It was decided to increase prices to reduce this deficit.

On April 1, the price of commercial cylinders was reduced by ₹ 44.50

Oil marketing companies had reduced the price of 19 kg commercial cylinder to ₹ 44.50 on 1 April. Its price in Delhi declined by ₹ 41 to ₹ 1762. Earlier it was available in ₹ 1803. In Kolkata, it is getting down ₹ 44.50 to ₹ 1868.50, earlier its price was ₹ 1913.

The cylinder in Mumbai has come down from ₹ 1755.50 to ₹ 42 to ₹ 1713.50. Cylinder is getting ₹ 1921.50 in Chennai. However, there has been no change in the prices of domestic gas cylinders with 14.2 kg. It is getting ₹ 803 in Delhi and ₹ 802.50 in Mumbai.

How the price of gas cylinder is decided

Oil companies decide the base price of LPG every month based on previous month’s international values, exchange rates and other costs. After this, retail price is extracted by adding tax, transport, and dealer commission. The government compensates the difference for subsidized cylinders, while the customer pays the entire price of non-subsidized cylinders.
