Kannada Chalavali Vatal Paksha has claimed that auto, taxi and private bus services will be closed during this period. However, state transport KSRTC and BMTC buses will run normally. Essential services such as hospitals, drug shops, ambulances, petrol pumps and metro services will also continue.
The whole matter is related to free ticket
On February 21, Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KRTC) bus conductor was beaten up for not talking in Marathi in Belagavi, adjoining Maharashtra border in Karnataka.
The whole matter was related to free tickets. Women’s bus tickets are free in Karnataka. A male passenger was asking for free tickets. On refusing, he said that speak in Marathi, while the bus conductor told that, he comes to Kannada. Which increased the dispute.
Police detained 5 boys on charges of beating the bus conductor. At the same time, the girl sitting in the bus filed a complaint of sexual harassment against the conductor. The girl is a minor, so a case was registered under the Poxo Act.
Maharashtra-Karnataka stopped buses, drivers beaten
After this incident, Karnataka closed buses going from Belgavi to Maharashtra. Buses started returning from the border. Maharashtra also stopped the buses of the State Transport Corporation from going to Karnataka. In Maharashtra, supporters of Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) put a soot vessel on a Karnataka bus in Kolhapur and put party flags.
When the dispute increased, a bus driver in Maharashtra was attacked in Chitradurga, Karnataka. Put a soot vessel on his mouth.
The girl who complained in the poxo case withdrew the case
Police Commissioner of Belgavi, Iuda Martin Dainik Bhaskar told -Police started investigation in the case of beating of the conductor and arrested 5 accused. The girl who complained in the Poxo case has withdrawn the case. His family released the video and said that nothing like this had happened and we want to withdraw the case.
The victim said- 6-7 people came and started beating as soon as they stopped Bus conductor Mahadev Hawakari told that, when I was cutting the ticket, a woman and a man were sitting in the bus. The woman sitting with the man asked for two tickets for free, I gave him one and asked whom do you want to another ticket. The woman pointed to the man.
But I told that there is no free travel facility for men in Karnataka, so they asked me to talk in Marathi. I said that I do not know Marathi. I asked him to talk in Kannada. At this only 6-7 people aboard the bus attacked. About 50 more people reached there as soon as the bus stopped. The bus conductor has suffered injuries in this fight.
The bus driver from Karnataka was beaten at the Balekundari bus stop. This area is very sensitive in terms of language.
Belgaum or Belagavi, language controversy started by name
Belagavi is a district bordering Maharashtra in the north of Karnataka. Earlier its name was Belgaon. In Marathi, a village is placed in front of the name of the place i.e. Belgaon is Marathi. On 1 November 2014, the Government of Karnataka changed the name of Belgaon to Belagavi. This is Kannada name. The central government also gave permission for it.
