The Karnataka government has issued an order to initiate a fresh investigation, accusing Kannada actress Ranya Rao alias Harshini, who was arrested in the Gold Smuggling case, of misuse of the privileges of the VIP Airport Protocol.
The investigation will also investigate the possible role of his stepfather (DGP) Dr. K Ramchandra Rao. Ranya Rao was arrested on March 3 while returning from Dubai at Campagowda International Airport in Bengaluru with 14.2 kg gold.
Ranya had brought gold in her belt. To avoid security check, Ranya used the airport facilities to be provided to senior officials, taking advantage of her father’s name and post.
The state government has appointed IAS, Additional Chief Secretary Gaurav Gupta as the investigating officer. Its final report is expected to be received within a week.

Political debate intensified in Karnataka over the case
The case of gold smuggling has intensified political debate in Karnataka, accusing the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP of doing wrong things. The BJP has alleged that the Congress is protecting Ranya Rao from investigation. At the same time, the Congress has accused the BJP of giving land to a company associated with the actress under suspicious circumstances.

Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra criticized the government on social media and said,
“Media reports about the involvement of a prominent minister of the Siddaramaiah government in recent times in recent times, given the track record of scams in new ways by this government, is not surprising.”
He alleged that the government protocol for smuggling of more than Rs 12 crore cannot be misused without high-level political support.
The same state Home Minister Ji Parmeshwar said that the investigation is going on and until the conclusions are clear, the government will not intervene in it. He said, “We cannot say anything until the investigation is completed. Neither I nor the government can give any such response.”
Karnataka Minister MB Patil responded to the BJP’s allegations and said that during the previous BJP government, 12 acres of land was allotted to a company associated with Ranya Rao.
Ranya Rao was caught at Bengaluru International Airport with 14.2 kg of gold on 3 March.
Had gone to Dubai 4 times in 15 days
Security agencies were already monitoring their activity, as they had gone to Dubai 4 times in the last 15 days. DRI’s Delhi team was already aware of Ranya’s involvement in gold smuggling. So on March 3, the officers reached the airport two hours before the land of his flight.
