The room in which the fire broke out was used as a store room.
Justice Verma also side in Supreme Court report

A part of the internal inquiry report available on the Supreme Court website.
Cleaning of Justice Verma- What I saw in the video, it is not as I saw
- Justice Verma, in response to the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, said- On the night of March 14/15, the store room caught fire near the staff quarters of the bungalow. The room was used to keep old furniture, bottles, crockery, mattresses, horticulture equipment, CPWD content. The room was open. It could also go through the back door of the staff quarters. It was different from my main residence.
- On the day of the incident, wife and I were in Bhopal. My daughter and old mother were at home. I returned to Delhi with my wife on the evening of 15 March. After the fire, the daughter and private secretary called the fire department at midnight.
- While extinguishing the fire, all the staff and my household members were asked to stay away from the scene for security reasons. When they went there after extinguishing the fire, they did not get any cash or money there.
- I and any member of my family ever kept cash in that store room. This amount is not mine.
- On returning to Delhi on the evening of 15 March, your first call came. On your request, your personal protocol secretary also went to the spot. No cash was found there. This is also clear from the report that has been assigned to me.
- The next day before the court started, you showed the videos and photos for the first time, which the police commissioner shared with you. I was shocked to see these videos because the scene shown in it was not matching the site, which I myself saw. That is why I first said that it seems to be a conspiracy to trap me and tarnish my image.
- The incident has assured me that it is only part of the conspiracy, which may be associated with baseless allegations against me on social media in December 2024.
- I deny the charge that we removed the cash from the store room. We have never shown any burnt cash nor were we given burnt cash. Only a few debris was removed from there.
- A judge has nothing more than his reputation and character. This incident is going to harm my years of hard work and credibility.

Chief Justice of Delhi HC gave this information …
Delhi High Court Chief Justice DK Upadhyay gave this information in the report sent to CJI on 21 and 22 March-
- On March 15, I was in Lucknow due to Holi holiday. At 4:50 pm, the Delhi Police Commissioner said on the phone that there was a fire in Justice Verma’s bungalow at 11:30 pm on March 14. The call was made by the private secretary of Justice Verma.
- The secretary was informed by the servant working at the residence about the fire. The room in which the fire broke out is next to the guard room. The store room was usually closed. I sent my registrar on the spot, he told- there was no lock in the room where there was a fire.
- On reaching Delhi on the evening of 16 March, I met you (CJI) and gave a report. Then approached Justice Verma. He presented his side at the High Court Guest House at 8:30 am on March 17 and feared a conspiracy.
- According to my investigation, prima facie the entry of an outsider does not seem possible in the room where there was a fire. Only the person, servant, and CPWD personnel living there could go. Therefore, I am of the opinion that the case should be investigated deeply.
Police report: Judge’s PA reports about fire
The Indian currency police said in a report to the Chief Justice of the High Court that PCR received information about the fire in Justice Verma’s 30, Tugalak Crescent bungalow at 11:45 pm. Two fire engines were called. The fire started in the room located in the corner of the boundary wall of the kothi. Security personnel live in the room attached to them. The fire from the short circuit was immediately controlled. After extinguishing the fire, 4-5 half-ranked sacks were found in the waist. The private secretary of the judge gave information about the fire.

Name has been added to scam of Rs 97.85 crore in 2018 too
Earlier in 2018, the CBI lodged an FIR against Justice Verma in the case of disturbances in the Simbhavali sugar mill of Ghaziabad. According to NDTV report, Oriental Bank of Commerce complained of the mill disturbances. The complaint said that the sugar mill has misused a loan of Rs 97.85 crore issued for the farmers.
Justice Verma was then the non-executive director of the company. The CBI started investigation in this case. However, the investigation slowed down. In February 2024, a court ordered the CBI to resume the closed investigation, but the Supreme Court overturned the order and the CBI stopped the investigation.
