External Affairs Minister Jaishankar attended the program of NGO Asia Society on Wednesday.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that India and China are trying to improve their relations again. Stressful relationship is not beneficial for anyone. What happened in the Galwan Valley in 2020 was not a way to resolve issues.
Jaishankar attended an interactive session of Think Tank Asia Society on Wednesday. The Foreign Minister said that we know that there may be differences in India and China even further, but they can be resolved in another way without getting into the struggle.

The program was conducted by CEO of Asia Society and former Foreign Minister of South Korea Qung-Va Kong (left). Jaishankar with him.
Jaishankar said- still the issue is not completely over
Referring to the clashes in the Galwan Valley, the Foreign Minister said that what happened in 2020 was really very painful. This was not just a struggle but written agreements were ignored. It is not that this issue is completely over, we are still dealing with some parts related to this incident.
The Foreign Minister said that we compete on many issues. But we should not struggle for this. Stressful relations between the two countries do not meet the interests of any party, because if peace is disturbed near the border, then the rest of the relations cannot run properly.
India-China relations improved since October 2024
The Indian Foreign Minister said that we feel that there has been some improvement in relations since October 2024. We are working on it. I have met the Chinese Foreign Minister many times and the rest of my colleagues have also done so. We are trying to see step by step whether we can compensate for the loss in 2020.
There was tension between India-China over border dispute for four years in eastern Ladakh. After a long talk of two years, an agreement was reached between the two countries in October this year, after which on 21 October, the forces of the two countries have retreated from Depsang and Demchok. After this, on 25 October, the armies of the two countries also launched from East Ladakh.

According to the agreement, the two forces have returned to the first position from April 2020. The forces are now patrolling in the same areas where they used to do before April 2020. Apart from this, the commander level meeting is still going on.
After finalizing the agreement, PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in Kazan and took several decisions to improve the relationship.
