Cristiano Ronaldo has responded to Rasmus Hojlund’s imitation of his famous ‘Siu’ celebration, saying it “wasn’t an act of disrespect” following Denmark’s 1-0 home win over Portugal on Thursday.
The Manchester United striker copied the former Red Devil’s iconic celebration after scoring a late winner in Copenhagen in the first leg of their Nations League quarter-final.
Hojlund insisted the celebration was not mocking Ronaldo, who the Dane called his “idol”, and the 40-year-old said he was not offended by the incident.
“For me, it’s not a problem,” Ronaldo said. “I know it wasn’t an act of disrespect. I’m smart enough to realise that.
“Not only him, all over the world, several athletes celebrate me.
“For me, it’s an honour, but I hope he can see my celebration tomorrow [on Sunday].”

Ahead of Denmark’s trip to Lisbon for the last eight second-leg on Sunday, Hojlund said: “He’s [Ronaldo] had such a huge impact on me and my football career. Maybe it’s a bit ambivalent, but to score against him and Portugal, it’s huge.
“I remember him scoring from a free kick in 2011 when I went to watch the match, and since then I’ve been a huge Cristiano fan.”
The winners of Portugal and Denmark will face either Italy or Germany in the Nations League semi-final.
The Germans take a slender 2-1 lead back to Dortmund after goals from Tim Kleindienst and Leon Goretzka ensured victory in Milan.
