Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed the Chief Ronan Bar of Intelligence Agency Shin Bet. On Friday, the cabinet unanimously supported Netanyahu’s decision. This was announced by Israel’s Prime Minister’s Office.
This is the first time in the history of Israel that the government has removed the head of the domestic security agency from its post. Ronan’s last day as Shin Bet Chief will be 10 April. Earlier, the government had fixed April 20 for his dismissal, which has been changed.
The Prime Minister’s Office said that if a new appointment is made in place of Ronan, they can leave the post before that.
Ronan’s dismissal has been challenged in the High Court. If the court considers this decision illegal, Netanyahu may have to withdraw it.
Netanyahu said- after Hamas’s attack, Ronan lost trust
A cabinet meeting started late Thursday night to remove Ronan from the post. In this meeting, Netanyahu said,
After Hamas’s attack on 7 October 2023, he lost confidence in Ronan. Ronon is not the right person to reinforce the agency.
Netanyahu alleged that Ronon’s view was soft in a conversation related to the release of hostages with Hamas and he was not aggressive. He claimed that from when Ronan has been included in the conversation in the conversation, Shin Bet has been included in the conversation, since then there has been a huge decrease in the leaks of information and through successful negotiations we have managed to get rid of the hostages.
However, Ronan was involved in the conversation at the time of the deal of ceasefire and hostage release with January Hamas. He was not removed from the team.
Ronan said- Netanyahu is weakening the country
During the cabinet meeting, Shin Bet sent a letter of Ronan to the ministers. In this, he dismissed his dismissal, refusing to attend the meeting. Ronan termed the government’s allegations as baseless and said that it is an attempt to disrupt Shin Bet’s actions.
Ronan warned in the letter that Netanyahu is weakening the country at internal and external levels. He alleged that Netanyahu damaged him and Mossad chief David Barnea from hostage talks and damaged the entire process.
He said that the reason for his dismissal is conflicts of personal and institutional interests. This is a serious threat to the security of the country.
Ronan said that intelligence agency Shin Bet is currently investigating Qatar’s intervention in influencing the decisions of the Israeli government.

What is Shin Bet and what is its work?
Shin Bet is Israel’s domestic intelligence agency. Its main task is to fight terrorist activities, maintain security within the country and gather important intelligence for the government.
Its work is like the US FBI or India’s IB (Intelligence Bureau), but it mainly monitor matters related to Israel and Palestine. Ronan Bar became the head of Shin Bet in 2021 and is considered a very experienced intelligence officer.
