Mf hussain painting record breaking sale: The painting of famous Indian artist Maqbool Fida Hussain (MF Hussain) has broken all the existing records of Indian art. The painting was sold for Rs 118.7 crore ($ 13.75 million) in the South Asian modern and contemporary art auction held in Christians New York, which is almost double the previous record.
In September 2023, Amrita Shergill’s painting ‘The Story Taylor’ set a record for selling for Rs 61.8 crore, but this painting of Hussain has overtaken it. As soon as the final amount of the auction was announced, the rockfeller center resonated with applause. This painting was not publicly seen in public for 70 years, and now it has been sold for Rs 118.7 crore.
Hussain’s most expensive painting
Nishad Avari, head of the Department of South Asian modern and contemporary arts of Christies, described the incident as historic. Earlier, Hussain’s most expensive painting was sold for Rs 26.8 crore ($ 3.1 million), which was auctioned in London in 2022 for a painting called Untitled Reirankernation.
Special thing about painting
‘Gram Yatra’ (1954) Hussain has a painting of about 14 feet wide, in which the daily routine of Indian rural life is depicted. This includes 13 scenes (Vicyates), which depicts India’s agricultural tradition, rural life and social references. The painting features a male and female bullock cart, which is a symbol of the beauty and importance of Indian agriculture.
