The Ministry of Defense signed a 6900 crore deal on Wednesday to increase the defense capacity of the Indian Army. Under this, 307 advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) i.e. Howitzer cannons will be purchased. This is the first time such a large number of indigenous cannons are being purchased.
The deal has been done with Bharat Forge and Tata Advanced Systems. In this, Bharat Forge will produce 60% cannons, while Tata Advanced Systems will produce 40%.
Atags cannons: made in India, heavy on enemies As its name is from Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System, it is evident that it is a cannon that is drawn from the truck. However, this ball can go some distance away like Bofors after firing the ball itself. The caliber of this cannon is 155mm. This means that 155mm shells can be fired from this modern cannon.
Atags are also called Howitzer. Howitzer means small cannons. Actually, very large and heavy cannons were used in the Second World War and till then. There were a lot of difficulties to take them long distances and deploy to height. In such a situation, light and small cannons were made, which were called Howitzer.

It is also known as indigenous Bofors. The cannon DRDO has been developed by Pune -based Lab Arde Bharat Forge Limited, Mahindra Defense Naval System, Tata Power Strategic and Ordnance Factory Board. Its development work started in 2013 and the first successful test was done on 14 July 2016. The use and specialty of this cannon is very similar to Bofors cannon, so it is also called native Bofors.
