The US Energy Department (DOE) has jointly approved the American company for nuclear power plant design and construction in India. There was a civil nuclear deal between India and the US in 2007, under which this approval has been given on 26 March.
Until now, American companies could export nuclear reactors and equipment to India under the Indo-US Civil Nuclear Agreement, but there was a ban on any design work or manufacturing of nuclear equipment in India.
India was constantly standing on the fact that every work should be done in India from design, manufacturing and technology transfer.
Joint will create a small modular reactor American and Indian companies will now jointly manufacture a small modular reactor (SMR) and also co-produce all its components and parts. It is being seen as a big diplomacy of India as a win.
However, the United States has conditioned that the nuclear reactors jointly designed and manufactured will not be re-transferred to any institution in any other country other than India or America without the prior written consent of the US government.

- SMR is easy to design and make. It can be connected to the grid of any power plant. There is no need to build a separate power grid for this.
- Land acquisition is a major challenge for the nuclear power plant in India. Such a plant can also be planted on a ship or large car. In this way it will be possible to set up a small nuclear plant in the shortest time.
- Russia has announced to provide advance technology to India for such a plant.
- By 2050, power demand in India is estimated to increase by 80% -15%, SMR is a plant through which every city or a company can generate electricity for itself.
