The commission had recommended 59 castes of the SC community to distribute 15 percent reservation in government jobs and education to three classes (class I, class II and class III). The final meeting of the cabinet was held at the Secretariat on Sunday before implementing this law.
The recommendation was approved by the Governor of Telangana on 8 April. After which it has been implemented on 14 April. The SC class will get only 15% reservation as before, but now it is divided into different groups.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said- ‘If the population of SC increases in the 2026 census, then reservation will also be increased.’ The Supreme Court on 1 August 2024 approved the states for such a classification.

On what basis did the partition

SC approved last year

If a state has 15% reservation for Scheduled Castes, then it can divide this 15% reservation among various SC communities on the basis of their backwardness.
Six judges, including Justice BR Gawai, supported sub-classification. He had said- ‘SC/S is not uniform class and some communities may be more backward than others.’ At the same time, Justice Vikram Nath had disagreed about sub-classification.

Telangana CM announced to increase OBC reservation by 42 percent
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy announced to increase the OBC (Other Backward Classes) reservation limit in the state from 23% to 42% on March 17. If this is implemented, the reservation limit in the state will be 62%. This will be violated by the 50% reservation limit fixed by the Supreme Court.
Telangana CM had said in the assembly- ‘Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had promised that if the Congress comes to power, the OBC reservation would be increased to 42 percent. Soon after assuming power, our government started the caste census.
He said- Congress government had sent a proposal to the Governor to increase OBC reservation by 37 percent. This government is withdrawing the earlier proposal, now sending a new proposal of 42 percent reservation.
We will also take the necessary legal assistance to increase OBC reservation by 42 percent. We will not sit calm until 42 percent reservation for backward classes is obtained.
