Marine commandos are special forces of the Indian Navy which were established in 1987. They are also known as “Marcos”, which is a brief form of “Marine Commando Force”. These are highly trained warriors who can campaign under any circumstances in water, land and air.
This is how Marcos is appointed
- Preliminary Selection: To become a marine commando, the first person has to be admitted to the Indian Navy.
- Voluntary application: Navy personnel or officers make voluntary applications to join Marcos.
- Hard physical tests: Candidates have to undergo extremely difficult physical tests.
- Psychological evaluation: Candidates’ mental persistence and ability to function under stress are evaluated.
- Special Training: Selected candidates are given special training of about 3 years. Basic commando courses, scuba diving and underwater operations, parachute training, jungle and mountain war training are trained in anti -terrorism campaign training and captive rescue operations.
