After information received from Gujarat ATS, the Indian Coast Guard conducted a search operation late on Sunday night.
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has seized 300 kg of drugs in Gujarat, which is said to be around Rs 1,800 crore. Seized drugs can be methmfetamine. The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and the Coast Guard have caught a consignment of drugs from the sea, 190 km from Porbandar as part of a joint operation on the night of 12-13 April.
Following information from Gujarat ATS, the Coast Guard sent a ship for search towards the International Marine Border Line (IMBL). Amidst the darkness, a team of Coast Guard spotted a boat. Asked the boat riders to identify. Fearful of this, smugglers threw the drugs into the sea and escaped by crossing the international border.
The Coast Guard team took out the drugs thrown into the sea with the help of a rescue boat. The boat is expected to have a connection with Pakistan. Currently, the drugs seized for investigation have been handed over to the ATS in Porbandar.
Significantly, Gujarat is now becoming an important route of drug smuggling. In April 2024 last year, ICG caught 86 kg drugs (price of 600 crores) near Porbandar. In February 2024, the Navy and NCB seized 3300 kg of drugs, priced at Rs 1300 to 2000 crores.
