The Custom Department seized more than 10 kg of gold worth Rs 8.47 crore at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
The Customs Department has seized 10 kg of gold at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai. Their market value is Rs 8.47 crore. Three private staff of the airport have been arrested.
The airport staff wanted to hide this gold in their under garments and take them out of the airport. The Customs Department has confiscated these between 13 and 15 March. Its official information was given on Monday.
In the first seizure, 6 capsules were found from the pocket of the airport’s private staff pants. Among them, 24 carat gold powder of 2.8 kg was filled. Its market price is estimated at Rs 2.27 crore.
In the second seizure, officers also got 2.9 kg 24 carat gold powder from another private staff, which is priced at Rs 2.36 crore. This gold was kept in seven capsules.
Another employee was caught in the third seizure. He recovered two pouches filled with 1.6 kg 24 carat gold powder from the under garments, priced at Rs 1.31 crore.
3.1 grams of gold powder found in garbage bags In two other cases, custom officials found 3.1 grams of gold powder in two black bags during the search of plane toilets and pantry -filled bags. Its price is 2.53 crores.
