Former world No. 12 Lopez will continue as Davis Cup Final 8 Tournament Director for the next three years, the International Tennis Federation announced today.

Lopez served as Davis Cup Final 8 Tournament Director in 2023 and 2024 when the competition was staged in Malaga, Spain. Lopez was on hand when his good friend and former Davis Cup teammate Rafael Nadal closed the curtain on his brilliant career at the 2024 Davis Cup last November.
The new pact means Lopez will oversee Davis Cup final 8 in its new home in Italy from 2025-2027.
“The Davis Cup was very special to me as a player and it was a privilege to be Final 8 Tournament Director for the last two years, Lopez said. “I am honored that the ITF has put its trust in me for the event’s long-term future and I am excited to work on it in Italy for the next three years.”
The 2025 Davis Cup Final 8 will be contested November 18-23rd at the Super Tennis Arena by Bologna Fiere.
Lopez made his Davis Cup debut for Spain in 2003 and helped his country to win the competition in 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2019. He owns a 19-23 overall record in 31 ties played.
In the 2008 Davis Cup final, Lopez famously out-dueled Juan Martin del Potro in four hard-fought sets to help Spain, playing without Nadal, stun favored host Argentina that starred David Nalbandian and del Potro to capture the Cup.
