Earthquake in Chile Argentina Coasts Tsunami Warning People Fear Ran from Homes

Earthquake in Chile: Severe tremors were felt in two South American countries Argentina and Chile. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the intensity of the earthquake has been measured at 7.4 on the Richter scale. This shock came under the sea, which also felt a stir in the surrounding areas. People living close to the southern end of the country have been asked to vacate their area and go to safe places.

Tsunami warning issued

Chile’s President Gabriel Borik said in a post on X that the coastal areas have been instructed to vacate. A tsunami warning has also been issued after the earthquake. The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service said that due to the tsunami warning, the coastal areas of the Magallan region have been ordered to be transported to safe places.

People ran out of their homes

The USGS reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was 219 km (173 mi) south of the Argentine city of Ushuaiya. With the rapid tremors of the earthquake, people left the houses and started running towards the empty space. At present, there is no news of any loss or casualties. According to local media, vibrations were also felt in Punta Arenas of Chile and Rio Galegos cities of Argentina.

Magallan is the lowest populated area

Magellan is the largest and most southern region of Chile and the lowest population. According to government data, in 2017 its total population was about one lakh 66 thousand. Chile President Gabriel Borik said that all the resources of the country are available to deal with the earthquake. In terms of earthquake, Chile and Argentina fall into the sensitive area, as this area is located in the terrain called Ring of Fire.
