For those who don’t know, Dark Angel haven’t put out new music since 1991, yet the band debuted two brand new songs last night (Friday, 21st of March) at their concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Check out the new songs below.
The first Dark Angel music to be released in over 30 years is due later this year via Reversed Records.
When talking about the record earlier this month, drummer Gene Hoglan said that the band would be “debuting a couple of new songs, some new material, at [the] upcoming shows.” The band are also set to play at the Metal Beer Open Air Festival in Chile tomorrow (Sunday, 23rd of March), and Hoglan went on to explain that for “both of [the] shows” Dark Angel was debuting new material, but he didn’t elaborate as to the two new songs that were played last night in Argentina are going to be the same two the band debut tomorrow.
Most importantly, Hoglan said that the freshly debuted tracks will “lead to a whole bunch more stuff. And we’re very excited to be unleashing new material on the metal world.”
As to a record this year, it will be the first time that Dark Angel members vocalist Ron Rineheart, guitarist Eric Meyer, drummer Gene Hoglan, and bassist Mike Gonzalez write without guitarist, Jim Durkin, who passed away in 2023 after starting a hiatus from the band in 2020 due to personal matters.
Hoglan explained that the new album was “in tribute to Jim,” and the band’s “new material will have a ton of his spirit all over it – his feel.” According to the drummer, he and Durkin had met up “a number of times to write some new material for Dark Angel.” And while they were unable to record it, there may be a “song that he’s got on [the record] that is pretty darn Dark Angel.”
