Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced in the Assembly on Monday, March 17 that his government is going to increase the other backward classes i.e. OBC reservation limit from 23% to 42% in the state. If this is applicable, the limit of reservation in Telangana will increase to 62%.
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy said in the assembly- ‘Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had promised that if the Congress comes to power, OBC reservation will be increased to 42 percent.’
However, this will be violated by the 50% reservation limit fixed by the Supreme Court. Let us know that the Congress had promised to increase the OBC quota before the 2023 assembly elections.

Mainstream Politics started from Telugu Desam Party (TDP)
Revanth Reddy was a member of the national volunteer ie RSS Backd ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) during his student life. 2004 He contested for the first time as a TDP candidate from Kodangal Assembly seat. However, he lost in this election.
Then, in 2006, he contested the local body election as an independent candidate and was elected as a ZPTC member from Midjil Mandal. In 2007, he became a member of the Legislative Council (MLC) as an independent candidate.
In the year 2008, Revanth, the head of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), N.K. Chandrababu met Naidu and joined TDP.
Became MLA from TDP for the first time in 2009
Revanth Reddy won the 2009 assembly elections from Kodangal Assembly seat on TDP ticket. He defeated Congress party candidate Gurunath Reddy by nearly 7 thousand votes. After becoming an MLA, he raised the agitation to make Telangana a separate state and farmers’ issues.
Revanth Reddy was elected MLA from Kodangal Assembly seat again in 2014.
Reddy won the Kodangal Assembly seat again in 2014. This time he left the Congress and defeated Gurunath Reddy, who joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) by a margin of 14,614 votes. He then became the Leader of Opposition in TDP’s Telangana Assembly. During this time he was in Telangana. The TRS led by Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) emerged as a sharp leader against the government.
He was elected the floor leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in the Telangana Assembly.
Joined Congress in October 2017
Revanth is considering joining the Congress party, after getting information about it, TDP removed him from the post of floor leader on October 25, 2017. On 31 October 2017, he formally joined the Congress party.
Revanth Reddy joined the Congress in the presence of the party’s then vice president Rahul Gandhi.
Became Chief Preacher of Congress in 2018 assembly elections
In the 2018 Telangana assembly elections, Congress made Revanth Reddy the main preacher. He contested from Kodangal Assembly seat as the Indian National Congress (INC) candidate. But Bharat Rashtra Samithi i.e. BRS (East TRS) candidate Pattanam lost to Narendra Reddy.
On 20 September 2018, he was N. Telangana was appointed as one of the three executive presidents of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) in place of Uttam Kumar Reddy.
After defeat in the 2018 assembly elections, Revanth Reddy contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as a Congress candidate from Malkajgiri parliamentary seat and won by a margin of 10,919 votes. He received a total of 38.63% of the votes and defeated Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) candidate Marri Rajasekhar Reddy.
In June 2021, Revanth Reddy was appointed as the President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC). He took over the post from July 7, 2021.
After becoming the President of TPCC, he led the Congress in the 2023 Telangana assembly elections. During this, he gave the then Chief Minister K.K. A successful campaign against Chandrashekhar Rao.
Third time became MLA from Kodangal seat
In the 2023 Telangana assembly elections, the Congress won 64 seats, which was 4 seats more than the majority. Revanth Reddy himself contested two assembly seats Kodangal and Kama Raredy. Winned from Kodangal seat. At the same time, Kamaareddy lost to the seat.
He had also won before Kodangal in 2009 and 2014. In this way he became an MLA from this seat for the third time.
Revanth became the second Chief Minister of Telangana
In the 2023 Telangana assembly elections, the Congress won a majority by winning 64 out of 119 seats. Then, All India Congress Committee (AICC) and elected MLAs nominated Revanth Reddy as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party. This cleared the way for him to become the Chief Minister of Telangana.
Telangana Governor Tamilisai Beautyarajan administered the oath of Chief Minister of Revanth Reddy at Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium in Hyderabad.
On 7 December 2023, he was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Telangana. He became the second Chief Minister of the state.
