The Irish quartet Fontaines D.C. have done nothing but make headlines throughout 2024 and 2025 with their critically acclaimed record, Romance. Now, within a day, almost 200k views have racked up on the band’s cover of Bring Me The Horizon‘s track, “Can You Feel My Heart” during their triple J Like a Version performance.
Far from its metal origins, Fontaines D.C. channel Bring Me The Horizon‘s track lyrically, but completely stray from the song’s original sound. Using nothing but synthesisers to build the instrumentals, each band member besides frontman Grian Chatten are responsible for different synth parts, morphing into this dreary and moody sound.
However, around halfway through the track, Chatten switches the lyrics from Bring Me The Horizon‘s “Can You Feel My Heart” to Nirvana‘s “Heart Shaped Box.” The instrumentals don’t change, the backing vocals remain, yet Chatten moulds Kurt Cobain‘s lyrics to fit the sound of Bring Me The Horizon‘s track.
The rendition of the famous metalcore track alongside the iconic grunge “Heart Shaped Box” appears to have gone over well, with the Bring Me The Horizon frontman Oli Sykes posting a screenshot of the Fontaines D.C. cover to his Instagram story with the caption, “Coolest thing I’ve seen maybe ever.”
Funnily enough, Fontaines D.C. guitarist Conor Curley said that the band had considered swapping “Can You Feel My Heart” for “Heart Shaped Box,” but clearly, found a way to incorporate the two, leading to this, rather unique, final product.
