The Lok Sabha confirmed the imposition of President’s rule in Manipur in the early hours of Thursday. The proposal was unanimously passed, but many parties questioned the policies of the central government.
Home Minister Amit Shah said that the government is taking all possible steps to restore peace in Manipur. He said that there has been no violence in the last four months and talks are going on with Maetai and Cookie communities. Shah said that 260 people have died so far in the violence that started in May 2023, out of which 80% were killed in the first month.
Congress, Trinamool Congress, DMK and other parties also demanded restoration of peace in Manipur during a discussion on President’s rule.
