Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus held a bilateral meeting on Friday (April 4, 2025) during the BIMSTEC summit in Bangkok. After the meeting, Younus’s office posted on X and informed about this meeting. During this, Mohammad Yunus gave a special gift to PM Narendra Modi.
Mohammad Yunus gave him a picture after a bilateral meeting with PM Modi. The picture was on January 3, 2015, when PM Narendra Modi gave the gold medal to Mohammad Yunus in the 102nd edition of the Indian Science Congress held in Mumbai.
According to Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar, the press secretary of the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government, on behalf of Yunus, this picture was presented to PM Modi as goodwill. During this, both leaders were seen smiling. It is worth noting that India-Bangladesh’s relations have not been comfortable since the fall of the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina and coming to India.
Under the leadership of Yunus, the interim government is facing heavy criticism for the attacks on the minority community. India has repeatedly shared its concerns with Bangladesh on this issue. This meeting between the two leaders is also important in the sense that Yunus has recently returned to China. Since the interim government became the head in Bangladesh, Younis’s attitude has been very soft towards China.
Amidst stressful political atmosphere, Prime Minister Modi recently wrote a letter to Younus on the occasion of National Day of Bangladesh. He wrote this letter to commemorate Bangladesh’s National Day and reiterated India’s commitment to advance the partnership between the two countries.
