Devotees of Lord Jagannath in Odisha demanded the West Bengal government not to name Jagannath Dham to the Digha temple. Sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik has written a letter to the CM of Odisha demanding appropriate action on this.
In fact, recently the West Bengal government inaugurated the Jagannath temple built in Digha, East Medinipur. At the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee performed Yajna-Havan and Pooja and described the Digha temple as Jagannath Dham.
People expressed happiness over the establishment of the temple in Digha, but they strongly opposed adding the word Dham with it.
Many Hindu pundits, researchers, servants and scholars have protested against the name of Digha Jagannath Temple as ‘Dham’.
At the same time, Sudarshan Patnaik, who was awarded the Sand Artist and Padma Shri Award, has sought clarification from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Sudarshan Patnaik wrote a letter to Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. In this, he said-

Demand for action from CM of Odisha
Sudarshan Patnaik urged CM Majhi to talk to the West Bengal government in the case and take appropriate action.
Patnaik mentioned the report in which some servants of the Puri temple, who attended the inauguration of the Digha temple, claimed that Brahma has been installed in the stone statue of Lord Jagannath.
Patnaik shared his letter with Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan and demanded a thorough investigation from the state government. Also asked to clarify the use of the word Brahma and the use of Jagannath Dham.
Talking to PTI, Sudarshan Patnaik said, “I request the Chief Minister of West Bengal to apologize to millions of devotees of Lord Jagannath for presenting the temple at Digha as a Dham.”
At the same time, Madhab Mahapatra, former member of Shri Jagannath Temple Management Committee, appealed to Banerjee to avoid making false claims. He alleged that it appears to be a part of a bad conspiracy against Jagannath Dham and Sanatan Dharma.
Senior servant Ramchandra Das Mohapatra said that Adi Shankaracharya had given the status of Dham to the Puri Peeth of Lord Jagannath. He said, ‘How can Digha Dham become? Jagannath temple has not all the places Dham around the world. Please do not mislead people. ‘
Shri Jagannath Sena convenor Priyadarshan Patnaik also attacked Mamata Banerjee and urged them not to stop misleading the people of Bengal. He said-

Mamta Didi should not mislead Bengalis. Bengali people know what is and it is difficult to mislead them.
