Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya said on Wednesday that now that the impact player rule has been extended for three years, a cricketer should be a pure all -rounder to get a place in the initial playing XI. In this rule, a team is allowed to change one of the players from their playing XI in the post -match stage. The teams bring batting or bowling experts as per the demand for the situation.
The BCCI has extended this rule to at least 2027 phases despite the objections of some main Indian players including Rohit Sharma. Rohit had said that the strategy of ‘Impact Player’ is stopping the development of Indian all -rounders and teams include an additional batsman or bowler in their place during the game.
Hardik Pandya said in a press conference before the inauguration of IPL 2025, “If you are not completely 50-50 all-rounders in the current scenario then it becomes difficult to get your place.” Let’s see that this rule can change or change later. But yes, certainly if you want to encourage more all -rounders, then they will need a certain place in the team.
Pandya is suspended for a match due to a slow over speed violation last year, so that he will not be able to play in the match against Chennai Super Kings of Mumbai Indians on Sunday. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the team in this match.
