On August 12, 2024, 2 girls were sexually abused in Badlapur, Maharashtra. The main accused Akshay Shinde was arrested on 17 August. The police encounter died on 23 September.

Inquiry also took place against Sanjay Shinde in 2012. In 2012, Vijay Palande, an accused in two murder cases, escaped from police custody. Sanjay’s uniform was found in the SUV he ran from. He also came into controversy in the kidnapping case in 2000.
