China US TARIFF: Australia has rejected China’s proposal to work together against the tariff imposed by the US. China suggested this when the US has imposed heavy taxes on both China and Australia. The US has imposed a tariff of up to 10% on Australian goods and up to 125% on Chinese goods.
Jiao Qian, Chinese Ambassador to Australia, said that everyone should protest together to counter the “pressure and unilateral attitude” of the US. He also said that the world should oppose unilateralism and the rules made only for their benefit.
Australian PM said this
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albaniz said that his country will first take care of his interests, speak for himself and will not agree with China. Australia’s Defense Minister Richard Marles also clearly stated that Australia will not form an alliance with China. He said, “We are not going to hold China’s hand. We are focusing on increasing our business even with more countries.”
“We do not want to see a trade war between the US and China, but our focus is on spreading our business in many directions,” Marles said in a conversation with Nine News of Australia.
Australia expressed disappointment on tariff
Australia has expressed displeasure over the tariff imposed by the US, but has decided not to take any retaliation. Instead, Australia wants to interact with the White House so that the issue can be resolved.
Chinese Ambassador Jiao Qian said that the US is using business related matters as a weapon, causing damage to the world’s system and can create turmoil in the global economy. He said that China and Australia should work together to protect fair and open trade.
Australia is searching for new options
Australia is now looking for new opportunities to send its goods to other countries other than America. The country wants it to be less dependent on China and make his economy strong and flexible. For this, he is focusing on increasing trade with countries like Indonesia, India, UK (Britain) and UAE.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanies said, “Our 80% trade is not done by America. Australia has many more opportunities and we want to adopt them.”
Australia’s Trade Minister Don Paarel has recently met the business ministers of Japan, Singapore, South Korea and India to further strengthen trade with these countries.
